My MacBook Pro is Shocking
I’m snowed in and sitting in bed with my MacBook Pro, wasting time on the internet and doing a bit of work when the fancy strikes me. Every once in a while, I feel a tingling sensation on various parts of my body. (Answer: Yes.) A few times now I’ve been shocked when I come in contact with my laptop. Mind you, these aren’t small static shocks, but socks that burn and last as long as I’m in contact with the case.
I spent about an hour and a half on hold with Apple tech support only to be told in the end that because the case is aluminum, it conducts some electricity. This is not cause for concern though since it is a DC current and is not harmful to the computer or myself. Apple suggested using my MacBook Pro on a hard, level surface to reduce the risk of shocks.
I defer judgement of the absurdity of the preceeding paragraph to the reader.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the worst of the shocks until I got off the line with Apple. I’m planning on going down to the local Apple Store to express my grievances with greater insistence.
Until then, I’ll be in need of a hard, flat surface.
